Another wrapping material which was introduced in the 1950s, PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) has reduced in significance. Although not widely regarded as a material for use with overwrapping machinery, PE (polyethylene) runs extremely well on Marden Edwards machinery. It added that it has a capacity range of up to 500 cycles per minute.

The German supplier said that the machine can be modified to various wrapping styles with the simple replacement of modules. It currently offers five wrapping styles: double-twist wrapping, top twist, side twist, top clip and bunch.

Theegarten-Pactec also flagged up the speed capability of its new jelly wrapper, the MCH, which it claims is set to become the new benchmark for the packaging of sensitive jelly products in double-twist wrapping as it can package up to 1,000 pieces per minute:

“This is more than 60 per cent above the average that other machines of this type on the market can reach.”

The supplier said that the machines’s three-part, rotating lower punch at the transfer point in the packing head enables the processing of larger product tolerances.

It added that the MCH can also be used for for hard candies and chocolate coated articles, and that it has protected twist, side twist and foil wrap capability in addition to the double-twist wrap function.

“The machine allows an uncomplicated change of product sizes and wrapping styles without excessive down-times,” explained the supplier.

The company also noted growing industry interest in retrofitting of packaging machines at Interpack.

It said that it upgraded its older EK1 packaging machine – developed over 30 years ago – so that it can now wrap hard boiled candies in double twist and cites this “as an example of what can be achieved by way of a general overhaul.”
